    Howdy friends and neighbors.

I got a pair of Altec Boleros a couple of months ago, and find them a most excellent 'bookshelf' speaker.
Now that I've lived with them, given their age, I had thought about new capacitors and perhaps resistors for the meager crossovers inside.

Was wondering if anyone had a favorite flavor of caps for vintage Altec. I hadn't had the nerve to get inside my 19s, but these didn't scare me. I cannot complain severely with what is in there stock, but know they might not be to spec anymore, and look to making them all that they can be, within reasonable monetary pursuit.

    Anyone?

    Thanks in advance,

    Thanks for the reply, Donald!

In the meantime, I ended up scoring some Clarity SA caps, paralleling some 3's to make a 6. Big old rascals, but they worked just fine when I got 'em done yesterday.
On the first half hour's listen, much improved high end with some 'sparkle' and shimmer. Hadn't realized I could clear some 'mud' so easilly, even though I was happy with the speakers.
Of course, given that this is the first time for me to attempt this, it's going to be a while to get any kind of handle on the different flavors of caps.
    Definitely worth the effort though.

Now to consider those cement resistors....

    Thanks again!

I have used Solen Metalliized Polypropylene rated 5% 400 volt to replace old paper caps. You do not need to replace oil filled "Bath Tubs". If you need an odd value ; parallel two or three ( just add the values ) to get the value you need. Parts Express can supply them.
